What is the cleanest water sample: Fish tank water, tap water, rain water, filtered water or bottled water?

Cleanest water sample can mean different things to different people. Cleanest can mean fit for drinking, that is water without impurities but with minerals. Cleanest may also mean as clean as possible, which will exclude the possibility of presence of even minerals.

Fish tank water is probably the dirtiest of the samples listed. Fishes release the excreta and other body wastes directly into this water and hence is not very clean. Tap water may or may not be clean, depending on the source of water, treatment received, if any and contamination risks in transmission. If the source itself is contaminated and no treatment is provided before water supply, tap water will be unclean as well. Rain water is very clean and may contain minerals, but also runs the risk of low pH, depending on the air quality in the region. Filters remove the impurities by filtering them out, but may not be able to filter everything out (depending on the filter pore size), including dissolved impurities. Bottled water is packed after treating it through various operations and this will ensure the cleanliness of water. Thus, in absence of other information, I would have to say that the bottled water is perhaps the cleanest.

Hope this helps.
