She dumps Rusty James and begins a relationship with Rusty James's friend Smokey, who later admits that he not only told Patty about Rusty James's fidelity but also invited her to the party in order to get Patty to date him instead.

Patty is characterized as a strong-willed and determined young woman who takes care of her younger brothers while their mother works late nights. She is kind, faithful, and generally loving to Rusty James until she discovers his infidelity, to which she becomes insulting and angry. She glamorizes the gang culture that Rusty James and his friends are a part of, but she seems to know how dangerous and irresponsible it is.
